Chillida / Balenciaga - Plying form

Chillida / Balenciaga - Plying form

as part of the Eduardo Chillida centenary celebrations

  • Exhibitions

Eduardo Chillida (San Sebastián, 1924) and Cristóbal Balenciaga (Getaria, 1895) share, in addition to their origins in Gipuzkoa and ties of friendship, a common philosophical substratum.

Both are children of questioning and experimentation. United by the search for beauty and harmony, they work with matter with respect, listening to the very beat of the materials, faithful and demanding collaborators of both the sculptor and the couturier.

They create by elimination, playing a game of full-empty and always looking for new limits. Folding the form allows them to penetrate the interior space they generate in their creations, in which proportion and poetry are essential.

It is these shared concepts that may have prompted Eduardo Chillida to carry out the first study of his Homage to Balenciaga in 1987. In the context of the 100th anniversary of his birth, this exhibition invites us to explore and perceive, through the "dark light of the Atlantic", the common places of the sculptor of air and the couturier of space.
