Workshop for families "The Sound of the Wind" at the Comb of the Wind

The sound of the wind

Workshop for families
at the Comb of the Wind (Donostia-San Sebastián)

  • Event

The Maushaus team of architects will offer a workshop on the Peine del viento [Comb of the Wind] inspired by one of Eduardo Chillida’s most emblematic works.

The Peine del viento is a monumental sculptural ensemble composed of 3 colossal steel sculptures that interact with each other and create a space of encounter with nature, and the elements, but also define a place for the happening. Beginning and end of the city, the Peine del viento delimits the place from which to observe the horizon and confronts us with the unknown.

In the Peine del viento sensorial perception takes centre stage, leaving aside the usual monopoly of sight in favour of touch, smell and hearing which turn essential for the understanding of the artistic ensemble.

In relation to the sensorial aspect, it should be noted the creation on the site of a sea organ, designed from the use of an old sewer that existed in the plot before and that is operated in the opposite directory, to introduce in the square the rumour of the waves and the power of the wind. Through a series of 7 tubes that can be seen on the surface, in the shape of 7 holes in the floor’s paving stones, jets of pressurized water emerge from the pounding of the sea.

With the workshop “The sound of wind”, we will try to reveal and amplify the effect of the wind and the waves, using sound-devices from this curious sea organ. Aware of the limitations imposed by the precise moment of the rising tide, which may not coincide with the time of the workshop, we propose alternatively the creation with the families of some devices also activated by nature’s forces for the delight of the passers-by on the square.
