Guided Tour - Chillida and iron

During this guided tour, we will explore Eduardo Chillida’s deep connection with iron, the material that marked the beginning of his creative universe and allowed him to develop his own sculptural languague. It was in the darkness of a forge in Hernani that the artista discovered iron’s expressive possibilites; from that point on, his works began to take on a new dimension.

The need to work on an ever-larger scale led Chillida to delve into industrial processes as well. At Patricio Echeverría’s industrial forge in Legazpi, he found the technical expertise and resources necessary to push the boundaries of his sculptural practice. Later, with the realization of large-scale public art projects, Reinosa would also become a key location for the production of his monumental sculptures.
