Chillida Leku joins in the celebrations for International Museum Day

With the goal of reinforcing its place within the international cultural community, this coming 18 May Chillida Leku is joining in the celebrations for International Museum Day, with a programme geared particularly towards families. Throughout the whole day the visiting public will be able to avail of animated tours aimed especially at families, workshops exploring Chillida’s work, as well as a closing DJ session. These activities are designed to convey the museum’s role as an exciting and active social meeting place.

Focus on families

The museum’s outreach department has also organized two animated tours aimed expressly at families. Children accompanied by an adult can take part in tours in which they can discover Chillida’s artistic world in a playful manner. Booking for these special tours can be made by email at: education@museochillidaleku.com. The tour at 12 noon will be in Basque and the tour at 5 p.m. will be in Spanish. To guarantee an optimum experience, places in both tours are limited.

Meanwhile, on the back of its resounding success during the museum’s re-opening weekend, the La Casa del Vacío art and architecture school will be hosting a number of laboratories designed to give audiences of all ages the possibility to creatively explore different aspects of time, space and limits, the core concepts in Eduardo Chillida’s work. These workshops will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and again in the afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m.

The day will be brought to a close with a DJ session on the terrace of Lurra Café from 6 p.m. onwards.

Chillida Leku would like to remind all holders of an annual pass that these activities are included.

With its programme, Chillida Leku wishes to underscore its mission to become an active cultural agent. Over and above its founding mandate to preserve and universalize Eduardo Chillida’s legacy, the museum aspires to act as an exciting and experimental space engaging with art and also as a common social ground to create community, in keeping with the artist’s philosophy and message.
