Geometric bodies

Chillida Leku presents Geometric bodies, an exhibition exploring the use of geometric shapes in Eduardo Chillida’s work throughout his career.

In collaboration with Hauser & Wirth and other leading cultural institutions, Geometric bodies offers a journey through the different stages of Eduardo Chillida’s career, from his early plaster works—which still drew on figurative art—to his architectural projects, in which he creates three-dimensional spaces.

The exhibition introduces a new format at the museum, inviting two artists to present a single work: Nora Aurrekoetxea, whose work explores sculpture as a relational space between body, object and matter, and Larry Bell, known for his investigations into light, reflection and shadow. Their pieces are integrated into the exhibition route as specific interventions that broaden the interpretation of the exhibition.

Like many other artists of his generation, Chillida tried to transform art through sculpture, not by seeking to break away from the sculptural object, but by redefining its spatial presence. From this perspective, Geometric bodies examine both the geometric sculptural object and the relationship of scale that the work establishes with the space around it.
