The Zabalaga farmhouse, history of its restoration

The San Sebastián–based architect Joaquín Montero played a key role in the transformation of Zabalaga into Chillida Leku. A collaborator with Eduardo Chillida in the farmhouse’s restoration, he will personally guide us through the hidden details of this major project, which the sculptor envisioned as a vast empty space. For twenty years, the architect and the sculptor “listened” to the building, gradually transforming it until it revealed itself as what it had always wanted to be. They did so through patient observation, repeated visits, and long conversations.
