Interespecies - Workshop and performance

“…Each subject weaves relationships, like the threads of a spider, around certain properties of things, intertwining them until a solid web is formed that will carry their existence.”
Jakob Von Uexküll
In 1934, the biologist Jakob Von Uexküll published the essay A Stroll Through the Worlds of Animals and Men. Whereas classical science saw a single world encompassing all living species in a hierarchical order, Uexküll pointed out that there is no single time and space common to all living beings. The bee, the dragonfly, or the fly we see fluttering nearby do not inhabit the same world in which we observe them, nor do they share the same time and space with us—or with one another.
This workshop invites participants to explore, through sensory perception, the non-human experience of the native species that inhabit Chillida Leku. What is the world like through the eyes of a squirrel, the nose of a fox, or the flight of a bee? What does our environment reveal when we inhabit it from a non-human perspective?
Participants will create edible pellets based on the diets of the living beings that surround the farmhouse. By digesting them, each person will be invited to wander through the landscape, experiment with the place, and seek a creaturely connection—with the creature itself.
