The European Museum Forum awards Chillida Leku in the category of social integration

Chillida Leku was awarded the Portimão Museum Prize for Welcoming, Inclusion and Belonging for its efforts to promote values relating to human rights, social justice, music and philosophy.

The European Museum Forum has awarded Chillida Leku with the Portimão Museum of Welcome, Inclusion and Belonging Award at the European Museum of the Year Awards (EMYA) 2023 ceremony that took place last Sunday in Barcelona. This distinction celebrates the inclusive nature of the museum, a place in which both its physical surroundings and its human qualities, as well as its exhibitions and public programmes help everyone who visits it to feel part of the museum.

Chillida Leku has an active social agenda, which is why it has been distinguished in the most important awards in the sector. The jury highlighted its agenda of programmes and activities that use multi-sensory and multi-creative expression to promote dialogue and tolerance.

EMYA (European Museum Year Awards):

EMYA has been dedicated to promoting innovation and excellence in public quality in museum practice, encouraging networking and exchange of ideas and best practices within the sector. EMF/EMYA works within an overall framework of a commitment to citizenship, democracy and human rights, to sustainability, to bridging cultures and social and political borders. The different awards of the programme reflect, represent and emphasise different aspects and dimensions of these values.
